“As a full-time wheelchair user, our aim was to find a motorhome that required as few adaptions as possible. We chose the Swift Kon-Tiki 659 because it has an end bathroom and a level floor throughout.
The bathroom has been converted to a wet room and to gain wheelchair access to the bathroom and bed – the width of the bed has been reduced to a three-quarter bed.
To enable access to the motorhome using a wheelchair, a wider door and wheelchair lift were required. After our initial assessment by Adrian of Brook Miller, the width of the door was agreed to suit my individual needs (made to measure), and the door and lift were then ordered.
The work has now been completed and from our initial enquiry to the work being completed we have had absolute first-class service. Not only that but Adrian and his team did everything in their power to ensure we received the motorhome back in time for a trip we had pre-planned for which we are extremely thankful for.
We are now looking forward to many more trips on the open road.”
Gill and Ian McCaskie
Leisure Vehicle Modification Assessment
Mr and Mrs McCaskie contacted Brook Miller Mobility, regarding gaining our assistance with providing wheelchair access for a Swift Kon-Tiki Motorhome they had recently purchased.
Ian had already converted the bathroom area into an accessible wet room for his wife Gill, and had done a beautiful job so far, but came to Brook Miller, for our assistance with the actual wheelchair access.
Up until this point, Mrs McCaskie had not been able to go inside their motorhome, so we were delighted to confirm we could help them with fitting wide access wheelchair-friendly door, with a wheelchair-accessible lift and compatible electric step.

Bespoke Adaptations
Mr and Mrs McCaskie brought their Swift Kon-Tiki motorhome into our workshop to begin their bespoke adaptations.
First, we removed the existing door which comes as standard on the Swift Motorhome, which, at a width of 53cm would not allow for wheelchair access.
Our team then manufactured a new door, using the original window from the door, to refit into the new door, retaining the original look and style of the door.
The new door width was decided, during the modification assessment, as being 74cm, gaining an extra 21cm in width which would make the new door wheelchair accessible.
We then wrapped the door in matching grey vinyl, in keeping with the body of the motorhome.
Once the new door was fitted, our engineers fitted a step infill inside the original motorhome doorway, to provide a level entrance floor to assist with wheelchair access.
We fabricated a fibreglass panel to go underneath the door entrance, to give a neat finish and again, keep the original look of the motorhome and added a removable cover to the side of the lift which provides access to the manual override function, access for which is needed in case of emergency operation.
Finally, to provide the wheelchair access facilities which the customers required, our engineers fitted the wheelchair access lift, with a new compatible electric step which can be used when the lift is not required.
Because of the additional width of the new door, a new door stay strut was fitted, which could support the larger heavier door.
The Completed Conversion
We are so pleased with the final conversion and even happier by the reaction we received from Gill and Ian, as their lovely testimonial shows.
We believe the final finish, is in keeping with the original look and feel of the Swift motorhomes. We aim to make the modifications which we do, appear as unobvious as possible, so if you did not know a motorhome or caravan has been modified, you would have no reason to tell.
Our engineers and design team have very high attention to detail, and produce a very clean final finish, down to the small details.
Our goal was to provide Ian and Gill with the wheelchair access they required into their motorhome, but when you have such a sleek modern looking motorhome to start with, with the addition of the lovingly crafted adaptations Mr McCaskie had already done within the motorhome, we felt a huge responsibility to give a top class finish this lovely couple so deserved.
We wish you many, many happy holidays within your Swift Kon-Tiki Motorhome and thank Ian and Gill for allowing us to provide you with your wheelchair access.
