Vehicle Adaptations

Brook Miller Mobility have many years of experience providing our customers with the car adaptations they need to provide them with truly independent mobility. Many people wrongly assume that they will not be able to drive due to their disability, but our belief is that with the right experience and approach we can give anyone their independence.

A Word From Our Workshop Manager

Hello, my name is Ben, I am the workshop manager at Brook Miller Mobility. I have worked at Brook Miller for nearly a decade. Between myself and our team of highly skilled in-house engineers and technicians we can help find the right combination of vehicle adaptations that will best suit your driving needs, to allow you to be fully independent in all aspects of the vehicle.

We offer free home assessments, or you can visit our mobility superstore conveniently located in Elland just minutes away from the M62.

During your consultation we will discuss with you the aspects of the vehicle that you are finding challenging and find the best possible solution for this to make your vehicle easy to use, comfortable and a joy to drive.

 

It’s also worth knowing your vehicle does not need to be brand new or purchased through Brook Miller Mobility to have adaptations made.

 

Car adaptations that we can assist you with include driving adaptions, altering the way you operate the vehicle with a range of clever adaptions including left foot accelerators, mechanical hand controls, remote devices, electronic accelerators, steering aids and foot steering.

 

There are also a wide range of seat adaptions if you are struggling getting in and out of your vehicle such as transfer plates, swivel seats and swivel seats specifically designed for wheelchairs.

Wheelchair and scooter stowage adaptions are another adaption option we can assist with to allow you independence if travelling alone and you struggle to get your wheelchair or scooter out of the boot unassisted.

We offer our Left Foot Accelerator for almost every model of vehicle in the UK, either a twin-folding (twin flip) model or an electric model for vehicles with floor mounted electric organ style accelerator pedals. Designed for drivers who are unable to operate the accelerator pedal with their right foot, this adaptation allows a driver to operate an accelerator pedal on the left of the brake pedal with their left foot.

Indicator Extensions

Suitable for left or right handed use, the Bekker Indicator extension is a simple yet effective design. The indicator extension consists of a metal rod formed to extend the function of the indicator lever across to the opposite side of the steering wheel, therefore releasing your hand that would normally be used to trigger the indicator lever. The indicator needs no modification to the standard indicator stalk as it simply bolts to it. This means that there are no permanent alterations to the vehicle.

Seat Adaptations

Sometimes the only barrier to driving is the ability to get in and out of the driver’s seat and achieve a safe and comfortable driving position. Seat adaptions range from a simple transfer board to fully bespoke seating solutions. Achieving a safe driving position is crucial to true driving independence.

Swivel Seats

Swivel seats are designed for those who find it difficult to enter a vehicle or make a transfer from the wheelchair. Installed as a layer between the vehicle’s floor and the car seat the Turnout enables the car seat to be rotated facing outwards. An added bonus is that the rotated seat will be a little bit further out, in other words closer to the user.

Hoists & Stowage

Many customers can drive with standard production controls and seating; however, they have mobility issues that mean they rely on a wheelchair or scooter when out and about. Given the heavy weight of a wheelchair or scooter, simply being able to stow them in a vehicle can be a barrier to driving.

Having a Boot Hoist installed in your vehicle to assist with Wheelchair and Scooter Stowage will allow you to travel independently if you have difficulties getting your scooter or wheelchair in and out of the car on your own.
