Mechanical Hand Controls

Mechanical hand controls are some of the more common adaptions we fit, allowing a customer to rely entirely on the hand controls or sometimes a combination of pedals and hand controls are used.

Features

Any vehicle can be fitted with Mechanical Hand Controls.

Giving you freedom

Any vehicle can be fitted with hand controls; however, many controls will require an automatic gearbox to be used safely.

A bespoke service

At Brook Miller we never take for granted the needs of our customers, all our customers can take advantage of our bespoke fitting service, taking the time to work with you, in your vehicle, understanding your needs. From this we can use our experience to suggest the right adaptions for you and give you opportunity to try them out. A key element of our service is the follow up – once you have the keys it's important to remember that you can get in touch if anything changes or if anything doesn’t feel right for you, we can work with you to update your controls as your needs change ensuring you keep your independence.

To suit your needs

At Brook Miller Mobility, there is no such thing as one size fits all. While it's true that many people will benefit from standard adaptions, we take the time to get to know you as an individual so that you never have to wonder ‘what if’ we will always make sure you have all the information you need to make the right choice for YOU.

Flexability

An important part of adapting a vehicle is ensuring that the adaptions don’t create their own restrictions, with this in mind all adaptions are flexible in that the vehicle can always be used with the standard production controls if being used by another driver. Some adaptions can also be adjusted daily for those customers whose condition effects them differently on different days

Which is right for me?

Push / Pull

Mechanical push/pull controls do exactly what they say on the tin! A comfortable grip is positioned adjacent to the steering column, when pulled towards the driver you accelerate, when pushed towards the floor, you brake. Fitted in such a way that the original pedals can still be used with ease.

Floor Mounted

Floor mounted hand controls work the same way as a push/pull but as the name suggest they are fitted to the vehicle floor instead of the steering column, this offers a different driving position and requires different type of effort to use.

Push Brake

For customers who only need hand controls for the brake but can use the standard accelerator pedal, then a mechanical push brake may be the answer, available as steering column mounted or floor mounted, this adaption allows a customer to continue using as any standard features of the vehicle as possible.

Indicator Extensions

Suitable for left or right handed use, the Bekker Indicator extension is a simple yet effective design. The indicator extension consists of a metal rod formed to extend the function of the indicator lever across to the opposite side of the steering wheel, therefore releasing your hand that would normally be used to trigger the indicator lever. The indicator needs no modification to the standard indicator stalk as it simply bolts to it. This means that there are no permanent alterations to the vehicle.

Foot Steer

We are proud to offer our foot steering solution which has transformed the lives of many customers. Availible for most vehicles, comprising a custom moulded foot plate, this system allows a driver to steer the vehicle safetly in complete control. Most customers will opt for additonal buttons placed in the footwell to control other functions such as indicators and horn. The foot steering system still allows for someone to drive the vehicle using the original steering wheel.
